A lot of aspects help create a movie’s thumbprint. Acting, writing, foley, and score all come to mind. Another aspect that comes to mind is cinematography. Whether you realize it or not, films have a unique color palette that can invoke any number of feelings. Here are some examples.

In full disclosure and to give proper credit, some inspiration was derived from the brilliant Movie Barcode tumblr. If you haven’t checked it out, I strongly recommend that you do.

GWTWThere’s a lot to like in here. Wes Anderson’s antiqued yellow feel shines through in Moonrise Kingdom. Both Rango and There Will be Blood capture the wide open sky and dusty open spaces of their respective films. Fear and Loathing gives us a violent shift in strong color tones, much like one would expect while under the influence of the drugs in that movie. Gone with the Wind captures confederate gray and the fiery night sky lit ablaze by Sherman’s troops. Lebowski makes me want to drink a caucasian, while MASH evokes army fatigues and the red cross.
